Okay, so I liked
rageprufrock’s point with respect to Dean’s casual alcoholism continuing in the last scene: nobody thinks this is his happy ending, not him or anybody who knows him, which is why I can live with it for a summer. The fact that both Sam and Dean grabbed onto Lisa and Ben as Dean’s ideal is understandable. It’s just not going to work. Which I hope won’t suck too much for Ben, because I hope this is like night #2 of Dean’s visit, rather than four months later or something awful like that.
I still need the amulet back. Sam, since you apparently have powers now, get right on that, okay?
In general: hanging a lantern on your difficulty writing an ending—not an excuse!
ETA: Okay, I did a bunch of research on the Impala stories. I am of the opinion that she was built in Texas, but I don't remember whether all the Impalas were made in Texas at that point or whether the show could have gotten it right. Anybody?
