O Tiny Chucklehead: When a man tells you it's going to be different this time --

He's lying.

Also, calling the episode "Blank" with so much Lana in it was pitching right across the plate.

There really is no explanation for Clark and Lex's relationship but love gone rotten, is there? I mean, if Clark were deliberately keeping his enemies close/keeping Lex on tap for useful favors, he'd be nicer to Lex, and Lex's been a passive-aggressive bitch for a while now. (Which, I hasten to add, I respect.) Lex may not know what friends really act like, but Clark does. He can't really think they're friends or even pretending to be friends. I usually see the relationship as one of Lex longing, but this time I thought: neither of them can let go. All we need, especially after Chloe did her "come out of the closet" routine, is for someone to tell them, "You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends."

Hmm, an icon of that would be nice.

It you could fit the whole dictum on an animated icon, it'd rock like a rocking thing. A t-shirt'd be cool, too. *g*

Linzee hooked me up with the icon, though the T-shirt's going to have to wait.

Sometimes I think I couldn't love you more, and then you say things like that. *grins* Rivka, you're fabulous.

Well, unless she's willing to tell all about Countess Sparklepony and the crystal she has shoved up the drainpipe, it'll be mutual.

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

Not to defend Her Pinkness or anything, but when they were together, back in the misty depths of S2, she didn't have anything to lie about. Also, she doesn't have any reason to think that Countess Sparklepony has anything to do with Clark (see above, re Lying-Ass Alien), so I'm willing to let her slide for a while, whereas Clark has demonstrated that even when Lana's involvement in the myth has been written on her body he still won't tell her a damn thing, and he does know some relevant info. So, yes, there will be more thecreth and lieth despite Clark's promise -- but that's just even more reason she should run, run, run.

I don't know. I think a relationship based on "I can't take the secrets and lies!" would probably require disclosure of potential possession incidents and so forth. But, no, this will be another relationship where Lana's boyfriend lies to her, and words that are not the truth somehow come out of her mouth without any responsibility attaching.

Aww, I've missed that icon!

That? Is so appropriate. The quote, I mean. They are just--way too many weird mixed signals. Just. Yeah. What the hell?

I saw some that somebody made a while back. But I can't remember who...

Yeah, I am of no use, whatsoever. :P

A Buffy reference and so very apt too. *hearts you* I snorted out loud at the 'coming out of the closet' line.

Somebody else on my friends(friends?) list has an icon of that quote lying around, but hey, any excuse to procrastinate!

It really does suit them. Now I'm sort of sad, and I didn't even watch the episode tonight.

Heh, leave it to Joss & Co. to explain Clark and Lex (before the fact, even) better than their own show ;-)

Excellent points, thank you.

Can't we get JM to guest and say it to them? It sooo fits them even better than it did Buffy and Angel...

Speaking of icons that would be nice, Rivka, where do you get those mood icons of Clark and Lex?

The one you've got on this post made me laugh out loud. Is there a way to make them?

From: [identity profile] spike21.livejournal.com

re: spike's speech. OMG You are so totally right with this. *brain splody* They are Buffy and Angel.

[livejournal.com profile] moonlash_cc has an icon with that quote, made by linabean, I think. Incredibly fitting like you said. Lex can't let him go and Clark can't give him up.

Guh, you're so right. One week they're so in love, and the following week, tension so thick, makes you want to cringe. Hell, I want to know what happened in between. :-)

*snorts up Clex and looks around guiltily* You just made me feel a whole lot better about this episode. Thank you! I didn't catch much subtext b/c I was blinded by rage.
