Stories Written: Gosh, a productive year by my lights, though there are those who produce this much each month. According to Level Three’s search by date feature: No Darker Than Yours, Break, Skin Deep, No Angel Came, Genesis, Hideaway, Complicity, Golden Rule, and the Remix Redux story An Englishman in Smallville (The Legal Alien Extended Remix). Also my Yuletide story.

My favorite story of my own: I actually feel okay about most of the stories – their flaws stand out the more often I reread them, but I am finally at the point where I can like the good stuff while remaining resolved to do less of the bad stuff next time.

My best story: “Genesis” had a consistency of theme and unity of composition (written in one big rush, that is) that I like, but “No Darker than Yours” is the one I thought hardest about.

Story Most Unappreciated by the Universe: I’ve had good responses this year, and I feel it would be churlish to complain. “An Englishman in Smallville (The Legal Alien Extended Remix),” which was never posted to the main SV archives or to any Buffy places, is probably the least known, and I think it has some good bits, not least of which is Buffy’s line to Clark, “You’re a lot better looking than the snot monster.” I mean, what’s not to love about that line? I think it’s both in character and respectful of Buffy canon. I’ve seen it said that Giles is overly disparaging of Xander in this story, but I don’t think so – no matter what Giles says he thinks, he’s willing to sacrifice himself for Xander, and his disparaging comments are consistent with past statements (Doppelgangland, anyone?). Anyway, Xander gets to have sex with Lex in the story and that should tell you how highly I value Xander. Only the best for Lex Luthor.

Most Fun: “Hideaway,” though mostly like pulling teeth to write, gave me a bit of a thrill in that I ended up writing the explicit sex scenes at a family Hanukkah gathering, leading to some interesting equivocations when various folks asked what I was doing at that computer. I am constantly amazed by the sheer difficulty of writing sex scenes; that said, these particular sex scenes were pretty good, I think, and I really hope it wasn’t because I was writing them in public. “Skin Deep” and “An Englishman in Smallville,” as comic fics, were fun to write as well.

Most Disappointing: My Yuletide story. It still needs revision. I should also rewrite the dialogue at the end of “Golden Rule,” which is wooden – it seemed to work at the time, but Jenn’s “Slipping in Between (Haunt Me Like a Curse Remix)” made it clear I was fooling myself, writing what I wanted to say rather than what the characters needed to be saying. In vidding, I’m still struggling to find myself, but that’s a meme for another day.

Most Sexy: “Genesis.” Tie me up, tie me down.

Story With Single Sexiest Moment: “Skin Deep,” the weightlifting scene.

Hardest Story to Write: “No Darker than Yours.” Since I only worked on it over a period of, oh, eighteen months.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Uh, I have the feeling I don’t know which that is. I believe that my XF stories were more unintentionally telling, but I guess I’ll go with “No Darker than Yours,” since parts of it were written specifically to get to certain payoff moments for myself.

What's on deck: other than Sex Secrets, I am tempted to write something sort of like the sequel to Ruat Caelum that Jenn wanted, the one with Lex a prisoner in the Fortress. That story would dip even closer to the Id Vortex than Sex Secrets will, though, and I'm not sure I could pull it off.

Oh, and see my new icon? Laura B performed animating and captioning magic. Supreme Power is so good; Mark Milton is Clark Kent, bent just the way I like him.

Oh, yes. Yes, it was indeed.

I thought your Buffy/Smallville crossover remix story was just terrific! I'd love to see a sequel to Ruat Caelum, too.
