Post porn, acquire new friends.

I guess I knew that already.

So, welcome, campers!

Before I run off home, I actually did some memes floating around:

Music meme:

1. A song you never get tired of, no matter how many times you hear it.

”Stolen Fire,” by Janis Ian. I just play it again and again. The parody, “Stolen Tires,” is actually great too.

“Every Me and Every You” and “Commercial for Levi” by Placebo. Sleep may be the enemy, but so’s another line ….

“Rent,” “In Denial,” “What Have I Done To Deserve This?” and about one-third of the Pet Shop Boys’ other songs.

“When You Don’t See Me,” by the Sisters of Mercy.

Right now, “Sunbeam,” by Submarine, though it may fade. Fabulous lyrics (“Every crime I don’t commit/and every sin I don’t admit/Makes me realize that maybe/Jesus won’t want me for a sunbeam/won’t want me for his dream team/He might not want me at all”), and if I did videos I’d do one for Lex to this. Lyrics here.

2. An artist you fell in love with as soon as you heard one song by them, and where you were when you heard it.

Rammstein, “Tier,” driving back to New Haven from NYC. Bought the album the next day.

Chumbawumba, “Tubthumping,” driving to the Kinko’s at around 3 am, preparing to submit my Note to the law journal for the last possible time (after 3 previous rejections of that paper and 2 rejections of others). I almost didn’t do it, having failed every other time, and “I get knocked down, but I get up again” was perfect. Though I can’t say I’m really in love with their other work. Coda: the Note won the faculty award for best student work that year. It’s nice when a year and a half of humiliation ends in radiant triumph, like my own little Cinderella (Cinderellaw?) story.

3. Three albums that you associate with your high school years.

The The, Soul Mining
Depeche Mode, Some Great Reward
The Smiths, Louder Than Bombs. Used to make the guy who drove me to school in his Green Hornet cue it up every day so I could hear “Ask,” forcing him and my friend Steve to listen to “Golden Lights” really too many times than was right. I’m so glad cassette tapes are going the way of the dodo.

4. Four albums that you associate with your college years (or the ages from 18-22, if you didn't go to college.)

Sisters of Mercy, Floodland
Sisters of Mercy, First and Last and Always
Richard Marx, Hazard single (saw the video a number of times while preparing for the National Debate Tournament my freshman year, so ended up putting “Hazard” on my “work hard” pre-NDT inspiration tapes)
Pet Shop Boys, Con You Forgive Her? single

5. The five albums you've listened to the most times.

Sisters of Mercy, First and Last and Always
Leah Andreone, Alchemy
Leah Andreone, Veiled
Lauren Christy, Breed
Pet Shop Boys, Please or Actually or Very

And, what the hell, a fandom one too:

The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it: The X-Files. I’m surprised that’s not mentioned in the question, as in, e.g., the X-Files.

The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets: ST:TOS

The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy: 24

The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town: Heathers

The steady: Buffy, Smallville (for now)

The alluring strangers whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with: Farscape, SW:TPM

The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't: Angel

The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere: Farscape

The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking Him? How the hell did he land all these cool babes?: The Sentinel

The one your friend has fallen for like a ton of bricks and whom she keeps babbling to you about on the phone for hours, and you'd be happy for her except you just know it's going to end badly: Will and Grace (yes, this means you, MustangSally)
