Via Blog of a Bookslut: Sometimes Even Wolverine Is Sad. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. The Bookslut is available as an xml feed for your friends page, by the way.

Fellow New Yorkers: Why didn't anyone tell me about the Housing Works Bookstore/Cafe down on Crosby Street? Much better organized (albeit smaller) than the Strand, chock full of quality books, most of them recent -- even a graphic novel section -- with hardcovers from about $12.50-4.00 and paperbacks about $2.00, except yesterday was 30% off day. Okay, so there are compensations to living in NYC.

How did you *not* know about Housing Works, is my question! They do great readings and live music, and best of all, the organization they fund is really good, really smart, and doing desperately needed work.

There's also several HW thrift stores; the largest, which has furniture is on W 17th Street.

Next, you're going to tell me you don't know about Pearl River Mart. Sigh. What sort of orientation does your school GIVE new faculty?!?

Yeah, I knew about the furniture, but we don't really need any more furniture and I don't need any more clothes, so the bookstore was the first real temptation. Pearl Mart looks cool, though.
