I have always understood why people hate Jacob's TWoP reviews.  They're excessive and pretentious and just so very messy, so very proud of their overreading, which is why I loved them.  I always thought that he basically got why fandom was worth loving.  Then I read his most recent Pretty Little Liars recap.  (Side note: yay return of show!)  And got a couple of pages on why shippers--of all kinds, anyone who doesn't like the way that any show is going with respect to a relationship--are Doing It Wrong.  Disappointing enough, because talk about your glass houses, but as best I can tell this is connected, at least in his mind, with something going on in Gossip Girl where some people are mad about a narrative they thought encouraged/excused domestic violence, and he didn't think so because it's just a show and they fought, and therefore feminism is bad.  (Not actually all that different from the usual Jacob free association.)  Which added a nasty gender component to his anti-shipping.  So, you know, I enjoyed his Farscape reviews, but--bye-bye, TWoP.

yeah, I loved his reviews for a long while, particularly Dr Who and AI and not gonna lie, I was willing to own a few of his sharper judgements because I'm all about self awareness, but he, like a lot of TWoP got to be a lot of 'spitting in the face of the people that read you'. I don't know who else they think is reading 20 pages recapping an episode they've probably already watched except the very people they think they're so much better/hipper/smarter than.

I've been following him on Twitter for a couple months and slowly coming the the reluctant conclusion that he is a bit of a douche. :( This may be my tipping point to unfollow and just forget it.

I gave up on TWOP last year because I couldn't deal with the recaps of Supernatural anymore, which became more about Demian and less about what was actually happening on the show. Jacob's pretentiousness and anti-feminist slant has long been a problem for a long time.
