rivkat: Dean's arms (dean's arms)

Still taking Eight Crazy Nights prompts; Thuvia, I’ll hold a space for you unless you tell me otherwise.

Week-old TV thoughts (boy am I behind: this is not a good semester for fannish activities for me!):

The Real Ghostbusters: Color me shocked that it’s the fanboys who “manned up” when lives were at stake, and that the fangirl’s courage was both undermined and ignored: notice that she did demonstrate the same courage as Demian and Barnes, only without having access to rock salt and lighter fluid or any other weapon, because God forbid Dean give the girl on the front line the iron poker—I mean, she might use it to defend herself or something. I understand why they chose to show mostly boys, but that just makes Becky and the (nameless?) fangirl the only representation of girls you have, and that’s icky.

That said, I was so primed to cringe, and am inured enough to the show’s fear of girl germs (let’s presume that the female ghost is to blame! What could go wrong?), that I enjoyed some parts of it that weren’t actively smacking me in the face. I did love the meta on what Dean “feels” about having fans, since of course Dean doesn’t “feel” anything; but then the actor does go to cons and probably does feel these things, or things sort of like Dean’s discomfort, so that was kind of twisty. Dean's right within the narrative, but wrong without, and I do like that.  And I also liked the moment where the fangirl got a good look at Dean and changed her attitude: the show exploits the pretty plenty, but I don’t recall another acknowledgement within the narrative that Sam and Dean get away with a huge amount of stuff—and not just with sexual/romantic conquests, but with people they want help/information from--because they’re so good-looking.

Fringe: It takes courage to redo Pusher, and I liked it! I wish I had thinkier thoughts about this show, but I’m still stuck on worshiping the ground Olivia walks on.
