Wow, is that subject my life, or what?

It’s the OTW’s membership drive again, and I’ve already seen several posts from people who did better than I can on how a noncommercial archive with an infrastructure behind it is a good thing to have—I think of it as “when you have to go there, they have to take you in” though of course we want you even if you don’t have to go there! And there are all the other projects too—Fanlore and Open Doors and Vidding History. And the policies are written and betaed by fans: fan-friendly and human-readable is our goal; even our Privacy Policy has fans! So please, if you can, check it out and consider donating and becoming a member.

And now for something completely different: James Grimmelman’s Koans of Equity, the best of which is:

It is said that a young associate once presented a memorandum to a partner.

The partner flipped through it and looked up angrily.

“I asked for ten pages, but this is only six. Where are the rest?” asked the partner.

“Equity regards as done that which ought to be done,” said the associate.

(But another version of this story holds that the associate remained silent, left the room, and returned with four blank sheets of paper.)

And finally, late to this meme, but here are single sentences from WIPs:
1. Most people were pretty fucked-up about sex, in Dean’s experience, and somehow Sammy had joined the masses, maybe part of his whole impossible quest for normality.

2. As soon as she’d peeled out of the parking lot, Dean hotfooted it down the street in the other direction, towards the tiny grocery store he’d spotted on the way into town, about a mile away.

3. Even counting meteor attack, meteor mutant attack, attempted murder by plane crash, possession by alien entity, and—well, point made—he had never found it harder to maintain his cool than when Clark actually went to his knees.

4. Sam was watching Dean like Dean was the only real thing in a fever dream; his skin was tight and there were lines around his mouth and on his forehead that should have been decades away.

5. The one time he remarked to Dee that she must miss being able to bat her eyes and get what she wanted, she gave him a look so flat and dangerous – a look that never would have fit on her real face – that he shut up, embarrassed to have reminded her of what was gone.

6. Dean shook his head, trying to see Sam, Sammy, not the wavering shape in front of him who made Dean’s blood sing out with the call to chase and cut.

I prefer the blank sheets version, which is such a marvelous fantasy.

Your WIP sentences are killing me. Is that a Double Cross sequel I see? I can guess some of the others; some are unknown to me - and I'm not really into Smallville, but that is hot.

I like the snarky reply myself.

Not Double Cross, but something else. This semester is killing me--I want to be writing but it's totally irresponsible.

Funny, that's really never stopped me before.

I'd pay actual cash to read the rest of three. Guh! Maybe if you focused on writing you'd end up procrastinate by doing school work? Hey, it's a theory...

“Equity regards as done that which ought to be done,” said the associate.

Hahahahaha. Oh, man, why did it never occur to me to use that as an excuse?

Utterly unrelated to the content of the post, for which I apologize, but I was unaware that Holly McNarland was visible/audible to non-Canadians. Overall, would you say that you eat more maple syrup than average, and how long has that been going on?

I read several folky/women-focused music blogs, so that's how that happened. Not so much with the maple syrup though.

#3 sounds utterly irresistible, and #6 has me fascinated. *waits eagerly*
