Here’s the thing: as basically 95% Dean-girl, I still think that it’s a mistake for the supernatural to focus so much on acting as Dean’s therapist, or in this case and somewhat more forgivably Dean’s guilt-generating device. And signs point to the Sam-neglect continuing. (How happy was I that Meg called Sam out on all those possessed bodies? Even happier than that!) Victor could have pointed out to Sam that he died to save Sam’s demonic ass; Sam canonically experiences guilt for those he fails to save as well as Dean (though perhaps not quite as prettily). Speaking of pretty, sleeping Dean in the car, y/y?

Sam also gets major respect from me for being able to be purely happy that Dean was apparently chosen by an angel for rescue. It would be understandable of him to resent getting the demonic end of the stick, or even at least temper his happiness with regret, but his pleasure at the idea of Dean’s heavenly connection was rock solid. If he weren’t consorting with Ruby, I’d easily call him the better man.

Chuck! I love you, Chuck! I’ve never had an honest OT3 before, but I do now.

I watched the first twenty minutes of the free pilot of Knight Rider available on iTunes. My standards are low, but this was below even them, much worse than the movie, which was already pretty bad. It was almost calculatedly incoherent, as if they had a dartboard which they used to determine whether “random action sequence,” “random romantic moment,” and “random angsty backstory moment” would go in any particular minute. The bad acting was almost unnoticeable amidst the larger disaster. How do you make Val Kilmer’s voice coming from KITT unsexy?

Well, his neck was hanging so far out that window, I was afraid he was dead:) Who sleeps like that?

People who want you to see their pretty pretty faces? Actually I did notice what Jared Padalecki called his "model face" several times last night. I am just totally okay with that.

no comment on your last paragraph apart from 'you wanted to hurt yourself by checking out the trailer?'

and i like the fact that there is more dean story happening for once, i mean i love sam and the sam story lines were awesome but for three seasons there wasnt much dean happening story wise, last seson sort of with the deal but we still got to see more sam angsting than actual dean and while it would be a mistake to have only dean focused story lines now, i am kinda happy to see some episodes like that for once...i dont think it will be a new trend but i do think they need to set up the story line to come, the light and dark, so that sam and dean can be sort of torn apart...

just my point of view...lol...

Oh, Chuck. I am so full of anticipation. Unfortunately the NBC site is not available in Oz. *waits*

My favourite Chuck/Sarah/Casey stories - there's only two!

Thanks for the bookmarks! There might, um, be a way around the restriction if you are interested.

Sam also gets major respect from me for being able to be purely happy that Dean was apparently chosen by an angel for rescue.

I hadn't given that much thought (largely because I was distracted by Sam's apparent lack of interest in theology despite being a professed believer). Put a gold star on Sammy!

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

Sam's belief right now seems a lot less central to his character than Dean's disbelief. In fact, I think it's key that Sam speaks of proof: faith is not about proof. Sam infers God exists, for whatever reason; he's going to deal with that. It doesn't require him to upend his worldview. Whereas Dean, to my deep satisfaction, wants to challenge God on the problem of evil: if God exists, he's a right bastard.

Aside from that, yes: gold star for Sammy!

Well, but we know Sam prays, or did pray (was that "Houses of the Holy?"), which suggests to me that he would have had to give the problems serious thought before. It's not like he would have inherited that blindly from John and he's clearly not the type to pick up a belief system unquestioned from anybody.

I really wanted to give Dean a hug when he was talking about the problem of suffering. But then I often want to give him a hug.

I think of Sam as having placed Pascal's wager, and having seen no reason to revise that choice subsequently, which is why he's relatively indifferent to what seems like confirmatory evidence. I also find it easy to see him as much more focused on Dean and his own powers right now than the larger questions, though I would also easily accept a switch to big-picture thinking. But his world has been so narrow for so long that I want him to take some time to breathe, you know?

In terms of mythos of the show, how can any hunter not believe in god or at least think there is some kind of higher power out there. I mean they have proof holy water and cross actually work, that hell and soul actually exist.

Well, I felt like season 1 was all about Sam's therapy... so, I figure it's Dean's turn to FINALLY have to deal with shit. Especially if that involves an angel getting right up in his face telling him he'd better show some respect... *shivers*

Fair enough; like I said, I'm a Dean-girl and I plan to enjoy every minute of Dean's emo. I am also fundamentally on Dean's side with respect to the problem of evil, and while Castiel's "show some respect" made sense--Dean is not very respectful overall--it was pretty much the equivalent of God telling Job to STFU because God is big and Job is not.

From: [identity profile] paper-legends.livejournal.com

Oh, word. I'm with you. But, I am happy to completely disregard that b/c 1.) Dean's becoming more "three-dimensional" and 2.) Castiel/Dean Dom/Sub slash zomg!!! *ahem*

As for, ya know, what's actually going on in text, not subtext, well, Dean's got the Baby in the Bathtub argument.

If a baby drowns in the bathtub, that is an unfortunate tragedy.

If you see a baby drowning in a bathtub, and do nothing to save it, that is manslaughter.

If you put a baby in a bathtub so that it will drown, that is murder.

Dean was okay with God not being there, but knowing--or even planning--means Dean holds God responsible and therefore cannot respect/worship him. Which, of course, Castiel tries to respond with the notion that no one but God can comprehend or judge God's motives, but, I tend to side with Dean on this one... Either God's dead, powerless, a lie, or not quite as lovey dovey as any of us would like... (and, of course, he's not--he's jealous and wrathful and smites a lot and bargains with people's lives and punishes beings he deliberately gave free will for exercising said free will and then, out of love, sends off his son to be tortured and executed as our scapegoat so he can finally forgive us for being exactly how he made us... yeah, I get why Dean's pissed. ^_^ I just sometimes am distracted by the pretty...)

I’ve never had an honest OT3 before, but I do now.

Yes! My problem -- which is not really a problem, of course -- is that there's more than one OT3 to choose from. Bryce, for instance, doesn't interest me a lot as a character, per se, but god he's pretty. ::mind wanders off::

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

Bryce doesn't interest me much either, though I agree that he's very pretty. But I love me some Casey, so I will stick with my OT3.

Yes, exactly, I've been wanting to post about that. I wonder if they'll ever go back to that.
