I have much abused my patient betas with this SPN AU novella and I'm trying something of a radical change, so I'd really love to get some fresh eyes. Is there anyone with the time and inclination to beta? It's Sam/Dean, NC-17.
Thanks! I think Filthy Mind's fucked up is a little different from Climbing's fucked up, though they spring from similar places, at least if you buy the interpretation that the younger sibling is fully implicated in the wrongness.
I have to admit, I don't think I got as much out of Climbing as I should have, because I was tired and that made (1) the clips go by too fast for me to process and (2) the lyrics unintelligible to me. But I will revisit it, perhaps after my 100th viewing of Handlebars.
well..i tried to do a close reading of it...not sure it's useful at all :)
and yes, the wrongness's different, but to me i went similar theoretical places about self and constructions of identity and desire and how those are interconnected. plus, it's an amazing story and she should read it regardless :D
Yes, I loved your reading! I just couldn't process the vid itself. But I don't think that was a White America problem, I think it was a "Rivka hasn't slept enough for a while" problem.
I guess I'm more interested in trying to see the vid as making a statement about the relationships and then only secondarily as a critique of what we in fandom do. Which, uh, isn't hypocritical because I can want different things from different pieces of art?
Oh, I totally think it's about the show(s) more than anything else. I mean...we're clearly getting the cest from somewhere and are not forcing it onto the text. So that part (esp when you do the reading about how their lives are dead ended even without the sex) is totally all about the show...
Get some sleep, take some time, and come back to it. I think you may appreciate it quite a bit more (also, read the lyrics...they're real short but everything makes much more sense!)
