I realize that I don't know as many of you all as I thought I did. Someday, perhaps after I grade my exams, I will read everybody's LJ, but for now I'd really love to get to know you better -- in a way that requires less effort on my part. So, how's about it? Also, should I review more books or fewer? What about music and movies? I'm unbudgeable on the fic, so those of you who aren't here for that are just going to have to skip it.

ETA: Specific questions about you:

What do you like to talk about?

I'm guessing we're mostly media fans, so what are your fandoms?

Would Superman take Batman, or would Batman beat Superman? (I have a very strong opinion on the latter.)

Whatcha wanna know? Perhaps if you asked a short set of questions, we could all answer 'em in comments...

You probably know more about me this week than you did last week. *g*

I'm 26, Navajo/Norwegian, I live in Southern California, mother of a child who looks like First-Grader!Spike, aspiring writer, total recluse and connoisseur of panic and pathos (no crowds, no small, closed places, etcetera). If I were out there solving crime, I'd be Monk without the cleanliness fetish.

I wrote X-Files fanfic from 1997 to 2000 and I'm engaged to marry a fellow former XF fanfic writer (http://www.livejournal.com/users/evenbiggerdog) (who isn't nearly so alliterative as his description would suggest). So of course I remember you from that era. I haven't been up on TV happenings lately (I'm a junkie for Law & Order), so wouldn't know SV or B:tVS fanfic from my left elbow. I love the reviews -- all the reviews! You've got me anxious to read Jennifer Government from your past review of it.

From: [identity profile] chase820.livejournal.com

I would love to see movie reviews from you, rivka. 'Cause sadly, I see more movies than read new books anymore. The curse of majoring in 19th Century Lit, I s'pose.

In your scenario, is Superman backed up by his buddy Lex? That would affect my assessment considerably.

From: [identity profile] grifyn.livejournal.com

I am seriously Batman-biased. I would have to say Batman. Please don't hurt me.

I'm ren. I may have introduced myself before, but I have a memory like an invisible seive, so...

I'm from the Australian contigent, fanwise. And I live for the fiction recs. Go the recs! I've also taken your advise bookwise a couple of times, though don't ask me to list titles (see previous comment re. cooking utensils and the visibility thereof).

Fell into your LJ through SV fandom - went hunting for favourite authors and went on a massive stalking friending spree.

Much as I'd love to say Superman would win, he's just not nuts enough. Batman is a psychopath. He has the technology and just enough insanity to do the deed. *g*

Mind you, if there were a Lex involved in the proceedings, things might be different...

Also, try to ignore the drunken spelling. My sober self is a lot more anal about these things. *g*

Who, me, obsessed?

My name is Juliette Torres, and I'm here because of Tikkun Olam. It blew me away when I first read it (lord, must have been two, three years ago) and it was the first (and one of the only--I'm bad about that) pieces of fiction I ever sent feedback for. So you could probably, if you had the patience and interest, sort back through your email and find out whatever dorky things I had to say back in my youth, but, uh, personally I'd prefer if you didn't. I really was a dork sometimes.

My fandoms... Okay. This should be interesting.

Andromeda
Buffy/Angel
Steven Brust's Dragaera (novels)
Earth: Final Conflict
Farscape
Firefly
Mutant X
Once a Thief
Petshop of Horrors (anime)
Revolutionary Girl Utena (anime)
Roswell
Seven Days
Smallville
Stargate
Star Trek up through roughly DS9 or so
Star Wars (the first 3. IV-VI)
Witchblade
The X-files

That looks like... most of them...

Batman vs. Superman, um... after some strenuous, sweaty wrestling they give into the sexual tension and just fuck each other?

From: [identity profile] bexless.livejournal.com

Dude.

Superman would win. Hands down! Batman's cool and all, but he's a) a loon, and b) a human. Superman would crush him like an egg.

And yes, I know, Kryptonite, gadgetry, blah. But Superman's....*Superman*. He would prolly fight Batters with Torquasm-Vo and enter Theta to battle him there. That's what *I'd* do, anyway. The best way to fight a man like Bruce Wayne is to get inside his fotress of a mind.

*waves cheerfully*

I'm butterfly, also known as Diana Michelle. I have a website (http://dianamichelle.5u.com), that I constantly wish had more on it.

I enjoy talking about all kinds of things, though on lj, it's mostly slashly stuff. I also have a tendency to talk about my Horrible Past Depression, though I'm generally a good sport about it and lj-cut it away from people who don't want to get pulled down by my sadness.

As you might have guess from that last bit, I'm can be a drama queen at times, particularly when I'm hopped up on hot chocolate late at night. Like now, for instance. This would be a very different post if I were typing in broad daylight and without the sugar rush.

The fandoms that I've actually written in number four (I originally typed in three, because I'd forgotten that I'd written a Smallville vignette). Well, four that I'm willing to talk about. They're all extremely different, though three are slash... okay, the Smallville wasn't really slash, though I had intended for it to be. I'm a huge Buffy/Xander 'shipper, which is just pathetic, as I've carried that torch for six years now. I adore Justin/Lance (*nsync), which is just dreadful because of all the members of *nsync, they really get the least amount of subtext. It's a thrill if they appear to be friends. Although, that really seems similar to my B/X sitch, now that I think about it. I've also written a short slash fic in the Andromeda universe.

For reading, I tend to focus on Smallville (Clark/Lex) and due South (Fraser/RayK). I'm incredibly devoted to my OTPs. Despite that, I've probably read something in most fandoms out there, simply out of curiousity and the need for something new. I just don't get attached to most fandoms.

As for Superman vs. Batman, I suppose it would depend on the circumstances. Has one of them gone evil? Is it a simple game? Without parameters, I simply couldn't venture a guess. Though that might have to do with not having read any of the comics.

Bex, you gotta be kidding me. I'm the second biggest Superman fangirl in the entire universe besides you, but this is *Batman* we're talking about here. He's a loon, but he's the Hannibal Lecter kind of loon: Smarter Than You. He'd be ten steps ahead from minute one. As for fighting him on the mental playground-- you really think *anybody* can navigate successfully through that tangled up ball of issues that Bruce Wayne calls a psyche? Sending Clark into Bruce's head would be like sending a girl scout into Suicide Slum after midnight and... and... oh you did NOT just give me a plot bunny. Dammit.

Anyway.

*waves at Rivka*

Hi, I'm Livia. I've been enjoying your book reviews-- I have a feeling if you branched out into movies & music I'd also find that interesting. I started out in Buffy/Angel, but The Sentinel was my first main slash fandom. I flirted with Due South, Roswell, & some miscellaneous fandoms before Smallville ate my brain. As you can see, I like to debate pointless details and be mean to newbies. *pokes Bexless with a stick* Oh, and procrastinate, which I'm doing right now. *sigh* *sadly leaves the computer and goes to do homework*

From: [identity profile] bexless.livejournal.com

Re:

*shakes head*

I'm not having any of it. Superman would win. Batman's too caught up in his own inner struggle. He's all about vengeance and that's a very narrow perspective. Superman has a much more well-balanced sense of purpose, *and* his reserves of strength - emotional as well as physical - are enormous. Plus he's superstrong and fast.

Lalalala. LA!

But I would be very, very interested to see someone work through this in fic...*eyes livia*

I'm Bexless by the way. *waves to rivka* I am an uppity newbie from SV fandom. I lurked obsessively for an age, but then I decided to offer myself up to be pushed around by rude and unwelcoming BNFs. And I have never looked back! I am also an enormous Superman geek - the really sad kind, who buys books and stuff. I started watching SV for the Supes, and stayed for the pretty gay boys.

My gateway drug was X-Files - M/K, to be exact. I then acquired various other fandoms (including, but not limited to, Highlander, Once a Thief, Eroica, Utena, and Due South) and finally arrived at SV, where I found you, thought your name looked extremely familiar, and proceeded to be blown away by your stories. I had a look at your LJ and liked the fact that you rec, review, and preview, so here I am.

If you can get me to say anything (I'm a natural-born mailing-list and LJ lurker), I will talk about fanfic, general fannish matters, specific fandomish or crossoverish topics, non-fannish literature, history, and a lot of other things besides. :-)

As to whether Batman or Superman would win, I agree with the speakers before me: It would depend entirely on the situation. What are we talking about here? A fistfight? Then my money's on Superman. World domination? Then my money's on Batman.

With Lex in Superman's camp, I'm going with Superman all the way. This is simply because, while I'd back Batman in a fistfight against Lex, my money would be on Lex in pretty much any other situation.

More reviews! Please? Books, movies, music: all good.

From: [identity profile] alee-gothphyle.livejournal.com

hello. *waves*

I'm a multi-fandom gal who started out with the X-Files, then got caught up in the Buffy phenomenon, and am now completely immersed in the realm of Smallville.

Like others, I discovered you through the 'Files, and then stumbled upon you in LJ-land and thought: "hmmm, she's writing SV now, very good..." :)

I'm a sucker for book and movie reviews, existential deconstruction, and fic, fic, fic. SV marks a first for me, as the CLex is the first slash-based fandom in which I have been (strongly? hehe) involved.

Superman vs Batman:
I think Batman has the advantage of being more likely to fight dirty and use Clark's weaknesses to maximum advantage. Like other brilliant people have already said, throwing Lex into the mix as Clark's ally changes the odds into his favor. But, if just Supes and The Bat... gotta go with Crazy Bruce!

From: [identity profile] erehwesle.livejournal.com

Hey, R... it's Meredith from your XF days... your reviews on any and all subjects are very, very good. Keep 'em coming.

I'm here for the fiction!

Hi! I'm Michelle. I found you through Smallville fiction. I started to friend all my favorite authors, but stopped with just a few because it takes me all day to get through my friend's list as it is.

I like to talk about everything and anything. I just like to talk!

Fandoms are (mostly) Smallville, Buffy, Angel, X-Files (The Lone Gunmen) and LOTR.

I would have to say Batman because he fights dirty.

Anyhow, for someone who likes to talk I'm feeling tongue-tied today. I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

From: [identity profile] missu.livejournal.com

Hey! I first read your buffy fiction and then discovered Smallville and that you write that, too. So, naturally I began the stalking. ;) All the things you tell about the US justice system is a welcomed bonus.

Good morning! (It's morning here, anyway...)

I'm Aspen. I discovered LJ by following a link from Mutant1013, [livejournal.com profile] jennyo's Buffy/Angel/XF mailing list. I stayed for SV, and recognized your name in a comment somewhere, I think over on M'Sally's LJ, immediately associated it with Iolokus, and friended you very quickly, at which point I discovered you were also writing SV fic... :)

I live in Denver and work as a tech for a law firm. I read voraciously-- mostly science fiction and fantasy, but with a side of everything else-- and am always looking for new things; read Jennifer Government on your recommendation and very much enjoyed it, plus I know now that we share an interest in Anita Blake, so I'd be interested in seeing other reviews/recommendations that you wanted to give.

Fandoms: the original true fandom for me was XF (*sigh*), followed by Buffy, Angel, Smallville, and Firefly. I keep an eye on Harry Potter, because I enjoy the books and have a couple of friends who are active in that fandom. I also watch the West Wing and Law and Order, but I don't consider myself a fandom member there. Oh, and as far as LOTR goes, I do enjoy the movies, but am rather a Tolkien purist, so it takes me a viewing or two to get past glaring errors (Faramir, anyone?).

Superman v. Batman: if Superman didn't fight fair, he'd certainly have the advantage. However, I'm very strongly influenced by Frank Miller's Dark Knight vision here, so I'm inclined to say that Batman would do whatever had to be done, and that counts for quite a lot.

From: [identity profile] nestra.livejournal.com

I'm Nestra. Nearly 27, living in Houston, currenty working as a tech writer, going back to school in the fall.

I first "found" you in X-Files, where I read "Iolakus" and then hid under a large piece of furniture.

And then you and Sally wrote "The Heart's Filthy Lesson". And the sequels. And then you started writing Smallville. I appreciate your decision to stick to fandoms I read and not go off and write Stargate or popslash or something.

Those are pretty much the only fandoms I don't read. If you want a list of what I do read, PolyRecs (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/recs/index.html) is a pretty good indication. (Note the icon.)

What I've written: La Femme Nikita, Sentinel, Buffy, Angel, Smallville, Sports Night, Farscape, Roswell, Alias, Harry Potter.

I think I friended you after a great post on Star Trek novels, so you definitely should keep up the book reviews, and I'm all for adding in music and movies.

From: [identity profile] saraslash.livejournal.com

Hi,

I'm Sophia (website here (http://sophiamande.tripod.com)). On LJ, I like to talk about politics and Buffy, mostly. Fandoms: was XF for all of high school, now mostly Buffy (no Angel except in fic), and I'm starting to get enraptured with Smallville.

And Superman would definately take Batman. :)

From: [identity profile] laurakaye.livejournal.com

I remember you from XF, which was my first fandom, and for a while, my only fandom. Now, though, I'm incredibly multi-fannish.

Tier I Fandoms: (Fandoms that I have written in many times, that I own a considerable amount of merchandise for, that I have seen most if not all of the episodes of, that I have many tapes of, that I join lists about, that I read the most)
-X-Files
-The Sentinel
-Due South
Tier II Fandoms: (Fandoms that I read often and/or write occasionally: I may be on a list or two, I have watched a fair amount of the show and probably have a few tapes)
-Andromeda
-Buffy and Angel
-Harry Potter
-Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
-All the Treks except Enterprise
-Highlander
-Smallville
-Starsky & Hutch
-Puppies
Tier III Fandoms: (Fandoms that I read sometimes, if I find something good. I've usually only seen a few episodes of the show)
-Quantum Leap
-ER
-Eroica
-The Professionals
-Twitch City
-Hard Core Logo

I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I post this...

As far as Superman and Batman goes, that's a tough call. I think Superman would win a lot of battles, but Batman would carry the war. And it would be a long, painful, drawn-out, psychotic sort of war.

Of course, if Lex got involved, all bets are off.

Book reviews? I usually skim over LJ book reviews, but I'm not opposed to their presence or anything.

From: [identity profile] quianca.livejournal.com

hi there!

To introduce myself, I'm Quianca

I'm 33, married and a scientist working for the "GIANT drug company". I've just moved back to the US after a stint as a PhD student in Scotland (almost 3 years), and I discovered LJ through the XF fandom (rachel anton, I think). My fandoms are XF, Buffy, and Angel, although I've read a bit of JAG, and during the early dawson years searched for quality FF, usually without success.

I stumbled across FF quite accidentaly, and found a story called "Friendship" by Melinda S. Dawney- which was W/A, and was mesmerised. I've tried to write a few things, but at the moment am writing my thesis (200+ pages!!) so that's where all my writing skills are focused at the moment, although I have an idea kicking around that I may try to get on paper.

Definietly more books, love reading the reviews, and of movies too. (No- worries about the fic, I've actually become more attached to it than to the shows themselves, there is so much quality stuff out there, which in my opinion stays more true to the characters)

Anyway- "hi!" nice to meet you!

From: [identity profile] stakebait.livejournal.com

Hey cool, another Meredith!

I'm Mer, from Buffy/Angel fandom, AKA that crazy girl who's throwing the Buffy con. (www.buffycon.org, I'll pimp anywhere, I have no shame.)

In other news, more book reviews pls.!

I like to talk writing, and poetry, and books, and politics, and sex, and, oddly for a non-lawyer, law.

And I think Superman would win the battle, because he's damned near invincible, but Batman would win the war, because he thinks strategically.

Mer

From: [identity profile] penelope-z.livejournal.com

Oh, well hi.

This is Penelope-Z, as my lj name obviously indicates. We had a very short exchange of feedback e-mail some months ago.

Apart from that I don't know you at all, but I've friended you cause I enjoy your SV fics very much, and wanted to be sure that I know when you update. It's nice of you and quite interesting that you are open to comments on the content of your lj. Me, I'm still hovering between 'it's my lj and I'll do what I want to' and 'it's an open forum, viewable to all and I want to offer the people who read it some sort of stimulation.'

But since you are asking for comments, I tend to read fandom-related entries more as this is usually what I can relate to and discuss. Did a minor on film studies too, so it's an area of interest.

My fandoms, well, Smallville and Harry Potter at the moment, LOTR and Highlander in the past, and the occasional rareslash oddity here and there.

Batman versus Superman? Well, Batman is far better dressed but Superman has superhuman powers that Batman doesn't. On the other hand if we are not talking about an immediate body to body confrontation, where Batman would probably be squashed, and give them some time and space to plan, I think Batman has more drive, and (no to be nasty to Clark) a more complex mind to come up with a trick or another, while Superman seems far too straighforward.
