Because it's crazy! Okay, I suppose if Lionel engineered it as LaT suggests, maybe it doesn't invalidate much of what we've known about Lex for years, but my confidence is ... not high. Personally, I want it to be a con that Lex knows is a con, since no one outside the Luthor household knows what really happened the night of Julian's death. Also, the actor has a nice jawline, but I would prefer it if he could hit more than one emotional/vocal note. It's kind of distracting for him to be at the same pitch for every damn scene.

In sum: No, really, what just happened?

In writing news, I realized that I'm now on my third Buffy crossover. Buffy's like the little black dress of fandoms, at least for me. I've done SV and Knight Rider, and now SPN. Does anyone know whether there are any Knight Rider zines from the 80s? I'd really love to revisit Bonnie. It wasn't the first story I told myself, but I had an elaborate scenario whereby KITT kind of took over Michael's body and had a passionate affair with Bonnie. (Actually, that early story explains a lot about, or at least presages, my fondness for Dean/Impala stories.)

Okay, help? I just watched the episode ... Remind me what happened with Julian again? I vaguely remember something about a baby brother and Lex feeling guilty but I'm really not sure... I only barely pay attention to the mythology.

Okay. (Deep breath.) When Lex was twelve, his brother Julian was born. At first we learn that he died in his crib on the night of his christening. Later, we learn that Lex believes he killed Julian, as does Lionel. But it turns out that was a screen memory/cover story -- Lillian killed Julian to save him from Lionel. (Lex himself: apparently already beyond saving.) Lex took the blame for her so that Lionel wouldn't kill her.

It is in theory possible that all this went down and Lionel spirited away Julian's still slightly-breathing body, leaving his oldest son and his wife in the dark. But even so that involves a massive rewrite of Lionel's beliefs and motivations all this time.

And it still doesn't explain how a sixteen-year-old could be running the Planet!

Oh, I dunno. Watching mainstream news these days, I could totally believe it was all being run by a 16-year-old. In fact, that's the best explanation I've heard yet.
