[livejournal.com profile] liviapenn made two lovely new icons for me. I am in her debt.

I'm also so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. The Harvard High School Speech & Debate Tournament went well generally, with a disaster in the final round of Humorous Interpretation that cast a pall over the whole weekend, so I don't feel quite as good as I should about the tournament as a whole. I spent a couple of hours yesterday morning alternating between hysterical laughter and hysterical sobs -- I was just so damned tired, and I'd been woken at 5 in the morning by a killer headache, and the residual euphoria combined with the lack of sleep and stress just broke me.

Then my 9 o'clock train was delayed until midnight, so I got into NY at 6:15, grabbed 2 more hours' sleep, and trotted off to teach class. Because today was a "legislative Monday," meaning Monday classes on Tuesday. At least tomorrow's class is on copyright in characters, which I could do in my sleep and most likely will.

And to segue, I love it when my two obsessions, intellectual property and fan fiction, come together, and I present you here with Larry Lessig fan fiction. It's an alien invasion story, too, which is almost scarily perfect for me. (Larry is the guy who unsuccessfully argued to the Supreme Court that the 1998 Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act was unconstitutional, and is a major force in anti-monopolistic-copyright circles.)

I just wanted to say thanks for the info on the tournament last week. I stopped by the Media Cafeteria on Friday night but the schedules had already been made and I could have only been a sub. Since I wasn't all that excited about showing up but maybe getting no rounds to judge, I didn't come in over the weekend. I was very sad to miss the opportunity, but there's always next year.

Thanks for coming by. As it turned out, when I arrived on Friday I was informed that we'd hired too many judges. Since that has never (in my fifteen years coming to the tournament, as competitor and staff) happened before, I gave you erroneous information based on my assumption that normal conditions existed, and I'm sorry. I just had no idea that we'd have more judges than we needed. I still don't know how it happened.
