Did anybody else know that Google is planning to host video from anyone who wants to send it in? Not a lot of help to vidders, but still a pretty cool expansion. They're accepting submissions now, but you can't yet browse. I'm researching what Google's up to these days as part of my latest project, on libraries and universities in the new copyright regime, and I'm tremendously impressed by all Google's aspirations. Maybe I should worry more; Google wants to be Microsoft, and absolute power is dangerous, and all that. But -- free video hosting!

Also, I plan to return to the (ir)regularly scheduled posting shortly -- I guess the past 24 hours have just been nervous ones, for no good reason.

yeah, well I knew, coz it was all over German news like 3 or 4 weeks ago, they had all kinds of comparisons with microsoft all over the newspaper, not only because of the vids hosting, but also google has plans for a web portal, and they had a software for accelerated web browsing (which would have enabled them to know every webpage that the indivdual user would visit) and cooperation with amazon etcetc, lots and lots of stuff that raised the question of the amount of data that they would have about the users...user privacy (? not sure if you call it like that in english) rights...etcetc

I'm usually up to date on cool tech news, but I didn't find this out until today. "User privacy" is definitely what we'd say.

OT...

How was the Philly "Serenity" trip? (Sans spoilers, of course) Did you drive up with the G&Sers? Did you have fun?

Did I mention how much I HATE all of you? ;-)

(Two more screenings coming up here in Florida--neither of which I can get to. Visualize me swearing profusely and creatively.)

Re: OT...

It was great! Aside from navigation difficulties, it was a wonderful opportunity, and I was very happy to get to go. It will still be good in September, I promise!
