rivkat: Rivka as Wonder Woman (Default)

Okay, Incarnadine's been revised and sent to the slash archives. I'm proud I actually wrote and posted it in under a week. I'm not usually that fast. Thanks so much to everyone who commented.

Part of the speed was that I haven't slept much this week. My doctor prescribed a medication that was supposed to have sedation as a side effect, and so I took it at night, but it actually generated nearly complete insomnia (i.e., no sleep the first night, possibly a few hours each the last two days). I looked up the full prescribing information, and while 25% of patients reported sedation, 11% reported insomnia, so whoops. I'm moving back the time I take it by several hours each day, so eventually I'll take it early enough that I hope it will be ok. But my cognition's been shot to hell, which is probably why I was crazy enough to write and post Incarnadine.

Unfortunately, I have many papers to read, and next week's assignment to create. I'm hoping to do that with more sleep, but I don't know if that will be forthcoming. And this weekend my husband's dad and little sister are coming to visit and to take us to The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui, with Al Pacino. At least I probably won't fall asleep during the performance.

Also, yesterday my parents' house was broken into; they lost 2 TVs, the VCR, and 2 laptops, both of which I'd bought. The old Toshiba was no great loss and probably has negative resale value, but the newer IBM Thinkpad's loss makes me sad. I got it for my mom to start using the Internet (the old Apple IIE on which she plays Shanghai was not connected), and I even bought her a cool optical mouse for her left-handed convenience, and my dad got a DSL modem for faster surfing. Naturally, she now uses only her office computer (and the IIE), but at least she writes me email now. I shall endeavor to convince my parents to replace the IBM PC with a Mac, because they work so well.

Which reminds me: Apple's "Switch" campaign is great, and Microsoft's imitation turned out to be a big lie (poetic justice), but that one ad with the black woman who says "I used to think it was my fault that Windows didn't work" creeps me out. Bill Gates as abusive husband.

MustangSally is a tyrannosaurus rex, I'm an apatosaurus. So not surprised. But I've never had my name changed, so the analogy isn't quite complete.
