SV, "Down Here" (David Wilcox song), here. It's ... let's just say I discovered that Lana is absolutely gorgeous when she's just standing there. Comments encouraged and appreciated.
I had to watch it a couple of times before I got it as a whole instead of as first-verse-story, second-verse-story, coda-encapsulation (because occasionally I'm slow ;)--but *as* a whole, this is just *lovely*. Taking the two outsiders from Clark's life and flipping the perspective so suddenly *Clark's* on the outside...or maybe not flipping the perspective, maybe just forcing us to see Lana and Lex the way Clark actually does at the end of the third season, forcing us to feel his isolation from the two people whose lives he wants to be a part of so *very* badly...
I don't know if you *meant* it to be an exercise in perspective examination, but dang, it *works* as one. *g* And, as I've come to expect from your vids, it's well-put-together; your editing choices were really nicely-made, and that song is *perfect* for the story/themes I got out of the vid.
Hey, thanks! The perspective was tricky because the lyrics as I interpreted them actually have a "we" that's different from the "you." I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Oh, wow! Great song (I think I find all my good songs through vids these days *g*) and I really enjoyed the vid. That last shot especially was so evocative.
Thanks! There's another verse to the song which I cut off because otherwise it would have been six minutes long and because, while I think it would still work, the metaphors would have been ... strained. But it's a good song in the long form, too. I'm glad it worked for you.
Hi. I watched this vid last week, and I keep coming back to it because I found it amazingly effective in actually making me like Lana (or some aspect of her). Someone above commented on the very neat "perspective switch" where Clark is the outsider and Lex and Lana are somehow "related" as outcasts/cast-asides. This really made me sit up and go "Huh, I never thought of it that way," so thanks for that. Great, great song choice and theme.
Thanks for the message! I'm really glad you enjoyed the vid. I myself was shocked at how gorgeous Lana could be when she wasn't, you know, talking. I actually reedited the vid to change one shot that was confusing and decrease some of the jerkiness on a few of the shots, so if you have the patience, you may want to download it again at www.rivkat.com.
