Killjoys: I see what you did there, Captain Tightpants! Yes, I would also like for you to be Firefly. At least we’re all on the same page there. Could you maybe hire someone who wrote dialogue for the show? Still, I’ll be back next year! Please do the same!
The Strain: I could be annoyed at the narrative misogyny that insists that Asshole White Guy Eph (as in Eph you) is a better parent than mom, no matter how neglectful and actively alcoholic he is, because he loves his son. (Because that's all it takes to make dads better than moms, you know; mother-love by contrast is both the default and deadly.) But I choose instead to be amused that, in order to make this claim, the narrative has to make mom into an actual bloodsucking monster with spider-minions, and even then the son has to think about it before choosing Eph. Rock and a hard place, kid. At least most of the other characters remain entertaining, though Vassily can get over his jealous snit any time now.
So, what else should I be watching in the sff line?

Okay. The truth is that I don't really watch much television. It's not because of snobbery or anything. I just don't sit still long enough. I can no longer read and watch at the same time. And reading is my number one when I'm inside and not online.
The only things I do watch with any consistency are Cesar Millan, any shows about animals or science, and Duck Dynasty. I make no apologies for the last one. I miss living in Louisiana sometimes and the show reminds me of some of the times I had there. Sometimes true crime type shows because I just don't have enough anxiety in my life...
