My Yuletide story is done. I'm deeply dissatisfied, because it's actually just the beginning of a story, but I'd have to wait until *next* Yuletide to get that done. Someday, I want to write the Great American Alien Invasion Novel, but probably not this year. (Yes, it is a fascination of mine. Is that so wrong? Today in B&N I saw a new paperback novel, the conceit being that the government is secretly selling humans as sex slaves to alien races. The cover spiel said that it was the beginning of a new series about slavery, rebellion, and -- not a direct quote, but good enough -- the triumph of the human spirit. I didn't buy it, but now I wonder if I'm not morally required to do so.)

Anyway, now that I've given you the proper exposition, onto the main question of my post. You know how there are little things that you read that just stick in your head? Well, I've always wondered about something I read in that story. It was in this scene where Willow has a confrontation with Evil!Riley, and she talks about how now she's only peanuts, but given a few more years of study she'd flay him alive with her witchy mojo. There was a line in that scene that I just found myself remembering, and being curious about. I was gonna quote it, but the fic page doesn't have that fic anymore, so I can't. It was something about words that are acts, or represent action, and there was marriage mentioned as an example. I remember I thought that was very interesting. I was wondering if that was something [you] read about (I'm curious if this is the case), or some that [you] just made up because it sounded really cool (which is understandle.)

Darn! I was sure it started with R. But anyway, yep, that's the fic. Guess I missed it.
Here's a short summary of J.L. Austin's How To Do Things With Words, which is the source of the idea.
Oh, thanks! I'll be checking that out. Appreciate you answering my question.
