OK, just finished S1 of Farscape rewatch, and can we talk about how awesome 1x22, Family Ties was as an episode and a season ender? First of all, John and the radiant Aeryn Sun were smoking hot, together and separately, the entire episode. Hell, let’s make that number two also! I love the way he tilts his head when he talks to her and she is, like, 10% charmed, which for Aeryn is a lot charmed.
Also, chock full of wonderful character interactions, while the plot moved at a brisk pace. In no particular order: Crais’s arrival, facing down a phalanx of armed and angry people he’d harmed! Crais’s sudden yet inevitable betrayal! Rigel doing the right thing when all the alternatives were exhausted, as Winston Churchill said of America! The beginning of the Scorpius/Braca romance. John’s dopey assumption that the battle-hardened warrior who appeared over Aeryn’s childhood bed was her father. And the dialogue is really good in that character-specific way that I love, e.g., John: “How much time do we have after [the reaction] starts?”/D'Argo: “[Zhaan] was vague to the point that I suspect that she doesn’t have a clue.” (And of course that exchange is the fuckup crew that I know and love. Well done, all!)
It all gets even better later, with St. John of the Uncharted Territories. But this is pretty wonderful.
