I am very much enjoying The Fall (I’ve seen only to episode 4). I thought I was done with serial killers, but as it turns out Gillian Anderson, even blonde, can bring me back in, playing Ice Queen, matter-of-fact feminist, and profiler Stella Gibson. Remember that one time MustangSally and I wrote Scully getting really mad at the patriarchy?  I was deeply satisfied to hear Anderson deliver a version of one of the lines we gave her, lo these many years ago: “Man fucks woman. Subject: man. Verb: fucks. Object: woman. That’s okay. Woman fucks man. Woman, subject. Man, object. That’s not so comfortable for you, is it?”

Maddy Myers has a good piece about supporting Anita Sarkeesian and her series, Tropes v. Women, without being in full agreement with her on particular choices.  It reminded me of other conversations about loving problematic things; we forgive ourselves that very easily.

I really enjoyed The Fall, too--and I usually hate serials killer stories. GA was great, though, and I liked all the details about life in contemporary Belfast, still haunted by the past.

That was a great line!

That line was perfect, as is her entire presentation.

Though I'm a tad uncomfortable with the way the two are parallels. Is her sweet nuits really analog to his murderous impulses???

Thanks for the link!

(And let me know what you think when you finish?)

Bless you for the Anita Sarkeesian article link! I'd missed that one, and it'd be a real shame if I'd never read it. *hug*
