lanalucy: Any fandom: She never thought she'd see *him* again, so she certainly never considered that the next time she saw him, he'd be naked.
“Nolan?” she asked, with real shock. She’d thought that he was in Switzerland, enjoying skiing and ski bunnies. “What are you doing here?”
Nolan rolled his eyes and edged his pillow a little further up. Get with the program, Ems—he didn’t even have to say it. She wanted to protect him, which was why Nolan Ross was the last person she needed to see.
“You are supposed to be off mending your broken heart, not –” she stopped. It was hopeless. Even explaining that Michael Kael was a very bad man would just earn her a riff on how Nolan was only going to sleep with him, not do business.
“And you’re supposed to be making yourself scarce until the Initiative de-initializes. So I guess we’ve both earned a spanking.”
Noise from the corridor outside made Nolan twitch—Emily resolutely did not look, though his paranoia-inspired workouts were clearly doing some good—and Emily took the opportunity to make it all the way to the desk. “I just need to install this,” she said, reaching for the tiny bug in her pocket.
Nolan made a ‘gimme’ gesture and examined it, his pillow forgotten and his eyes alight with the pleasure of technoporn. Or possibly regular porn, since it seemed he was about to make himself a star. “I know just the place,” he said, reaching for an elaborate model of a circuit board, some sort of executive toy/award, on Kael’s desk. “Now shoo.”
Given the sound of an electronic lock disengaging, Emily took his advice. When she peeked over the windowsill, Nolan was almost invisible, just the top of his head peeking over the sofa on which he’d arranged himself. She could see Kael, all his attention focused on the man displayed for him.
She sighed as she rappelled down the side of the hotel. Nolan was going to call the throwaway number she’d given him. But Nolan was safe now, or anyway safe from Emily’s enemies. The right thing to do would be to leave him out of it.
Too bad Emily Thorne hadn’t ever learned to do the right thing.
I need an Emily & Nolan icon!
