Next Monday's faculty workshop: "Oceans of Law: Piracy and the Legal Geography of the Seventeenth Century Seas." Sandwiches and cookies will be served.

Also, I had a very high concept idea for a fantasy novel:

Young computer genius/high school dropout/ne'erdowell is coming home late one night when she's bitten by a big dog. The next full moon, strange things start to happen to her. To survive, she'll have to turn her online community of hackers, software pirates and script kiddies into a real family -- but she's not the only one with secrets to keep.

The title -- wait for it --

Aww, Pirates and Cookies! Why, oh why, did I ever leave academia?

Sandwiches and cookies will be served.

They should be serving rum and hard tack, but that still rocks!

Hee. I'd read it...

Those who get my brand of humor are a special breed.

I'm not sure I'd like to eat hard tack, and rum only if it comes with fruit juice and an umbrella.

Both the faculty workshop and the fantasy novel sound interesting.
