Yes, definitely. If The Ugly Duckling had been translated by an American instead of a prissy, victorian Englishwoman, it might have been much closer to the original in some ways.

I'm fascinated by translations. If I weren't so lazy, I'd try to research them. I was amused to read on amazon that fans of The Little Prince hate the newest translation, because by being more faithful to the original it betrays the spirit of the original. Now Americans too can enjoy the misogynistic, science hating and armchair philosophical drivelings in their intended obscure form, and they're not grateful at all.
