A person's physical appearance really does matter immensely. If you look good, people treat you better and you have a smoother path in life. And sometimes you get negative attention for it. Sometimes you get sexual attention from family members after puberty or a make-over.
I'm with you so far, and was as entertained and interested as I was disturbed. I just don't know how to interpret the title, though.
The swan chick was a failure as a duckling, because it fundamentally was not a duck, and if you're a genius pretending to be average you'll just be weird and awkward and people will make fun of you. Sam always saw that Dean was noble and brave and loving, didn't he? Or did he use to think that Dean was a delinquent, demented and likely to bruise him? That he hovered too much, and was difficult to tolerate?
Why is Dean so obsessed with how he acts, if he thinks his family loves him more than they did before because of how he looks?
