I recognized that serrico had nailed it pretty early on in Sam's arc this episode. I can do no better than to point you to her meta about why the show has trouble with Sam POV now.

Also, SPN managed to bring in my other obsession, intellectual property! If you want to read more about IP norms among magicians, this is a pretty good paper, though magicians don't all agree of course.

And finally, Ruby was beginning to piss me off because her statements about Sam needing to "step up" are so ridiculously vague that no one sensible would be guided by them--as with last season, it's completely unclear what she proposes Sam actually do. But it turns out that's actually annoying writing, not annoying characterization, because she's apparently told Sam, just not where we saw. I'm not thrilled with that tactic as a way of building suspense, but at least it's more clear why Sam hasn't just cut her loose. Now, we get Castiel back, right? Right?

I think Ruby has been boiled down way too much. I don't quite get it but watching this episode made me think I was supposed to read something before watching it. Like it was a summary rather than a whole complete piece. Definitely losing the 'each episode stands alone' aspect which happens with a storyline...I just felt left out watching it. Oh and... ah, I might seem a total dork...but I love Wonder Woman...and I saw you do too... so I made these for you, and I hope you like them!
