Next story delayed due to tragic glass of water-meets-keyboard incident. However, I hope to have a draft soon.

In the meantime, this is how I’ve been putting my older stories up on the Archive of Our Own:

RT: [copies and pastes url of LJ post; hits enter]
AOOO: [slurp]
RT: [goes to type in story name] … Oh, you figured that out. Excellent!
RT: [puts in rating, warning, tags] Now to copy the summary and notes. … Hey, wait. You—you automatically detected the summary and notes and put them in the proper places.
AOOO: [smug silence]
RT: How did you do that?
AOOO: [smugger silence]
RT: Are you—are you watching me?
[pause]
RT: Well, great! I don't suppose you can, like, just take the top-level URL of my site and suck all the stories in at once?
AOOO: I'm sorry, Rivka, I’m afraid I can't do that right now. But I'm working on it!
RT: [wonders about Turing tests]

Also, a brief, broken-Sam drabble in response to aerye’s prompt (Dean, blood, rosary, broken promises) is here.

And finally: am I crazy to think that the lyrics to “Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is in Another Castle” are perfect for SPN?

I can't help listening to “Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is in Another Castle” and feel sorry for Toad! Maybe it's just a man-crush(toad-crush? plumber-crush?) but Mario is only rescuing him because he thinks he is the princess! TRAGIC!

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

And he says the only words he knows how to say! That's kind of a bulletproof kink of mine, actually, the outside constraint that prevents change or happiness. It is so tragic!

Wasn't there a tragic carrot-juice meets laptop accident in your law school career?

I'm not sure about you and liquids near electronics....

Your RT-AOOO dialog is quite amusing (and maybe a little scary)

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

It's hysterical that you remember that! This time was toddler-mediated, though as Z. said: you had a baby, a laptop and a glass of water; what did you think was going to happen?

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

Great minds! And so do ours!

... seriously though, isn't it a little creepy? Do you think Sam POV or just general SPN?

Sam, definitely Sam. Also, Pearl Jam's "Garden" is very S4!Sam. Someone should get on that.

Yes, but in the best possible way.

I shall have to try the slurping method again! (And also find the language to accurately describe the bug I keep encountering, as a report written in thingamajig and whatsit probably won't help much.)

Conclusion (but of course): Yay, AOOO!

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

It actually works best from my site, but because of how my site's set up the summary doesn't get automatically slurped. And I definitely want to ask for slurping/chapter improvements, because right now you can't slurp Chapter 2 and beyond, or at least I haven't figured out how. But it's still awesome.

this is the first i've heard of the archive. ooh, look at all the buffy fiction!

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

I have to put mine up! But the laptop incident will probably slow that down some.

From: [identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com

sorry about the laptop. i'll be sure to check for your work later on.

looking over the stories, i noticed that there's no slash. i'd better read "about the archive," assuming there is a statement of intent. but then again, maybe i should read me some het. might do me good. *g*

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

That...is not the archive overall, I can pretty much guarantee you! But since it's limited beta to test out the various features, so the stories will change a lot even in Buffy once it opens to broader beta.

ETA: If my Lex/Xander story isn't up, I'll get it up!

From: [identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com

good, thanks for that. i'll keep my eye on developments there!

yes, i found your author's tab and see a crossover with lex and xander. ooOOoo and yum. i'll go read it now. :)

From: [identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com

oh, that was FUN! i enjoyed it very much (except the eyeballs part *g*).

>"He looks like part of a complete breakfast," Buffy said.

haha!

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

Thank you! Clark is definitely part of a complete breakfast. Dialogue is the most challenging part of writing Buffy for me.

Out of curiosity, what page were you looking at? Because to my recollection, the archive is about 90% slash ...

From: [identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com

i've been working my way through the Buffy series (for the first time) on dvd, so that's what i'm reading these days. i looked at the archive for that specifically and saw almost entirely het, with buffy pairings. since then, i've found other fandoms there with loads of slash. :)

Sadly, laptop died. Hard drive may have been saved, but I had just backed up so it's only massive inconvenience rather than disaster.

From: [identity profile] harriet-spy.livejournal.com

I did that once (diet Pepsi rather than water). I never recovered.

wonders about Turing tests

nods, I bet there were totally turing test , ahhhahaha

AOOO is totally going to rock our fandom world, once its out of beta, even if I have to bug and bribe every single author I have ever known, to use AOOO slurping to get their stories up there :D

RT: Well, great! I don't suppose you can, like, just take the top-level URL of my site and suck all the stories in at once?

Don't you wish it could be that easy? *gg*

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

When I say they're working on it, I'm actually not kidding--but it is a ways off.

I bow down to the tech gods. Really it would be a fantastic tool to be able to load multiple stories at one time.

Hi! I'm being über creepy stalker girl because the comment box on your site won't work and I find it absolutely necessary to tell you how much I loved your and MustangSally's Heart's Filthy Lesson/Serious Moonlight/Changes/Spiders From Mars ficcies. I loved the history references and the yummy Cars and David Bowie song inserts and I wish that I could lock you in my basement and keep you. And I think I caught a History Of The World: Part I reference in the last fic and that just made me like you even more, and if you didn't intend to do that at all, then you're more awesome than I thought. The Spuffy was nummy and interaction/behavior stayed true to canon, and I loved your Rick and I wish that I could have some of those serotonin-loaded brownies because I've always experienced bad side effects with antidepressants. And I'm rambling and running out of useful and non-scary things to say so I'm just going to, uh *points at virtual door and runs for it*

From: [identity profile] rivkat.livejournal.com

Hi! I'm sorry that the comment box isn't working--I know I haven't been getting emailed comments, unfortunately. I'm really glad you like the stories. David Bowie was all MustangSally's doing, however, as was the History of the World. I could really use Rick's brownies on occasion myself (I really like the concept of weapons-grade chocolate). Feedback is always loved!
