A student just called and asked me to be her advisor. She called me "Professor T." No, not really, but Professor [Insert Last Name Here]. It wasn't as weird as I thought it might be -- I didn't have that "Professor T? That's my father's name. Call me Rivka" reaction that I thought I might. Mainly because I'm nearly as young as these kids, and I need all the professional distance I can get. No more shorts and low-cut tank tops worn to work, either. Those business suits I mainly ditched when my office went casual are back with a vengeance. I'm not actually wearing one today, but I'm not teaching today and I am wearing hose and a long skirt, which is close enough in my opinion.

Still trying to choose cases for the first assignment on Wednesday. If I get it posted tonight, that ought to be time, right? Most people do the assignment the night before, anyway. And it's not that long. We'll be doing introductions and talking about the course in general. Twenty-one students have signed up, evoking the big gulp from yours truly.

On another topic, I was thinking about odd nicknames. I was known as "Shotgun [T]" in my youth for my car-passenger behavior, and also as "Debate Partner of Satan," even though he was not Satan but merely a minor minion thereof. Now I'm used to Rivka, just like I feel comfortable calling people like Nascent & Fly those names to their respective faces. "Becky," though, is way uncool, and fortunately the one colleague who started off calling me that asked me & then stopped (I wasn't sure what I was going to do otherwise, because I hate correcting people on my name).

Anyone else have an odd or beloved nickname to share?

In other news, I took a quiz and tried not to cheat, but got to be the Krypto-mutant I wanted to be anyway:

You are: Lex Luthor!

My Lex and my Scully are a lot alike: fiercely intelligent, angry at the world for the atrocities of a few, and with intimacy and control issues surrounding them like big blocks of ice. I think Clark/Lex is more likely to work than Mulder/Scully because Lex is getting to Clark when he's young and malleable, and can be shaped around Lex's damage.

Oh, and I posted my first Clex story! Check it out at The Presence of Fire.
