I hope I didn't misrepresent myself on the subject of style: I think yours is wonderful. It's just that I've seen so many diatribes lately deriding anything "stylistic" I felt I should mention how your style actually works.
My favorite authors have distinct voices, and while they each have a definite style, it's not one born of affectation. Neither is yours. "A Sort of Walking Miracle" has its own style, and you are right, it is almost a character, but that's all to the good. I meant it when I said I couldn't see you making a different choice in your writing than the one you made. To me, that's the highest praise I can think of, because it works, and adding something or taking something away would weaken the entire piece.
