Two-foot pile of books to review; Yuletide, Smallville, and possibly Firefly to write. Am I a bad person for thinking that River/Jayne would be hi-larious? Mal: So you've forgiven her for cutting on you. Jayne (shifty look): She's a reader. Knows what a man wants. River (volunteering): He's very robust. Mal: Why do you people insist on thinkin' I want to know this?

*snicker* That's exactly how the conversation would go, too.

Then Simon would try to kill Jayne and get twisted up like a pretzel for his efforts, and that's its own kind of fun.

I think Simon would know that River could do more damage if Jayne ever displeased her; I think he'd just be happy waiting for that inevitable day. But I also suspect that Jayne harbors designs on that pretty mouth, so in my mind there's a conversation where River is trying to get Jayne to do something:

River: I'll do that thing you want.
Jayne: (smirks)
River: No, Simon would get so upset. The other thing.
Jayne: Ah, all right. (Pulls out gun.)
