Cable is out, thus I am reduced to dialup. It never ceases to amaze me how fast I become spoiled by technological improvement. Using this old laptop makes me groan in impatience as it takes a laborious, oh, 20 seconds to launch an application when my G5 pops it up, and using dialup -- let us not speak of it.

But I had to pay for an eBay purchase or risk the dreaded negative feedback, and while I was here I just wanted to say that I saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and I didn't much care for it. Angelina Jolie is hot, but the story was flat and the plot more than usually nonsensical. That wouldn't have mattered to me as much, given the pretty visuals (not just Angelina, but the backdrops etc.) if Gwyneth Paltrow's character hadn't been such a moron. I think they were going for madcap 1940s Rosalind Russell type, but what they got was moron. Forget the high heels in the jungle, forget the backseat piloting, forget the other whining -- let's say you're handed a McGuffin by a dying scientist who tells you "keep this from the bad guy or the world is doomed!" Then let's say you're pointed to the bad guy's secret hideout. Do you say "two great tastes that taste great together!" and blithely bring the McGuffin with you?

I didn't think so. Because you're not a moron. Did I mention I felt strongly about this?
