I don’t mind telling instead of showing in YA, but this was so repetitive that the drama was sucked out of it for me
I am having the same problem with something else right now (Book 3 in a series, in which Books 1 & 2 did not have this problem IMO). A couple more chapters and I will probably give up and throw it across the room.
I sampled The Shattering a few weeks ago and decided not continue. Nothing wrong, exactly. I just wasn't really drawn in. Maybe I'll give it another shot!
