Felafel, which I think was the earliest one, is sort of good-naturedly chauvinist in many places, like a significantly more sympathetic Jackass, but Leviathan has a lot of nuance and a strong grasp of economic forces driving social and cultural phenomena. Also a truly staggering volume of research. It's still got his trademark snarky tone (he comes up with no less than four different ways within as many pages to make fun of Governor Macquarie for naming everything after himself) but still conveys a huge quantity of information. My boyfriend has been a fan of the man's political columns in one of our local newspapers... but, er, now that I google him all I can find is the Brisbane Times, which is certainly not the one I'm thinking of. And a cursory glance at the BT columns suggests they are not very good.
Seriously, we may be dealing with some sort of evil twin/parallel universe scenario here.
