I LOVED this story. I first read it on AO3 and left kudos, but since I don't have an account there I was unable to leave a comment. But then I found it here and am so glad I can let you know how much I enjoyed it! You did a masterful job of reworking canon to fit a female Dee - how much more awful were the events of Devil's Trap with a possessed John hurting Dee? And the idea of Sam being seduced into using his powers by the idea of saving Dee by turning her back...inspired.
But you also made me think quite a bit about male privilege and how much Sammy takes for granted. His eyes were slowly opened throughout the fic but even with the incremental reveal of how Dee faced explicit and implicit discrimination, I don't think Sam will ever really get what life was like for her as a woman. I can see where her choice to stay male makes sense, although it's clear that it's not without its loss. And I wonder if it's yet one more thing that Dee is giving Sam, even if it does have an upside for her as well. Deep thoughts. And I love a fic that makes me think.
All the thinkythoughts aside, it was also hot, compelling, and a great read. Thanks for sharing it!
