rivkat: Rivka as Wonder Woman (snarky damon)
([personal profile] rivkat Jun. 6th, 2010 05:02 pm)
Two-thirds of the way through is one-third still in purgatory.  I was surprised that fewer students seemed to recognize The Vampire Diaries than Stargate, though maybe they just couldn't think of a jokey TVD reference.

Damon and Stefan Salvatore, brothers, owned their family home as tenants in common. They fought, and, in an attempt to placate Stefan, Damon executed a deed transferring his ownership interest in the home to Stefan. Damon went to Stefan’s study and showed him the deed. Stefan dropped the deed (it landed on his desk) and yelled, “You’ll never buy my forgiveness!” Then he punched Damon and left town. Two years later, with Stefan still gone, Damon executed a new deed transferring his ownership interest to Elena Gilbert, who had no idea about the previous deed. Damon handed the deed to Elena, telling her, “With all my family has done to yours, this is the least I can do.” Elena recorded the deed. A year later, Stefan returned. Damon’s first deed was still on Stefan’s desk, albeit very dusty. At that point, Stefan put the deed in his safety deposit box at the bank and thanked Damon for the gesture. Damon said, “No problem.” Disturbia’s recording statute reads as follows: “A conveyance of an interest in real estate shall not be valid as against any subsequent person who pays substantial value and takes without notice of the prior interest unless the interest in real estate is recorded in the registry of deeds for the county or district in which the land to which it relates lies.”

Who owns the house?

Elena owns the house. Since she actually recorded the deed, and Damon doesn't look like he did.

In all fairness, there's fifteen years of Stargate canon and only one year of Vampire Diaries canon, and the Vampire Diaries gets excellent ratings compared to most everything on the CW but the CW gets shitty ratings compared to everything else. I can't be bothered looking this shit up, but I'm thinking Stargate's ratings were always rather better than the Vampire Diaries'.

I think Elena and Stefan co-own the house? Because Stefan and Damon co-owned the house and Stefan never transferred his half to anybody and Damon's transfer to Stefan never got recorded and Damon's transfer to Elena did.

*GRINS*

I would have to say that The Vampire Diaries is still pretty new, and SG-1 has a LOT of canon. Plus, SG:A and...that other one that I will never ever watch.

A number of years ago (a number greater than 10, fwiw) my ASP teacher at community college announced that Office Space was such an important film for anyone going into an IT career, he would include an extra-credit question on the final based solely on knowledge of the film. A VB teacher routinely used the five Three Stooges as samples for sorting programs and such. This is WAY cooler than either of them. You go!

I've watched every. single. episode of Stargate. Like, ever.

Even the crappy Universe ones, except the most recent one, which I'll watch tomorrow.

I've never bothered even figuring out where I *could* watch Vampire Diaries.

It took me a good... um... 5 years or so before I even bothered watching a BtVS. I caught up with it all on DVD a few years later.

I own the SG-1 box set and am planning on watching it start to finish so's the Stargate AUs I read make more sense. This has been the case for like a year and a half. I have heard entirely too many bad things about SGU to watch it, and anyway Comcast decided basic-cable subscribers are no longer allowed to have Syfy. I've heard lots of good things about Vampire Diaries from the fifth episode on, so I'm catching the reruns Thursdays at eight on the CW; next one up is episode four.

Too many historical novels would make me think' marriage of convenience and everything will go to their kids anyway' as the solution to that pesky legal problem. I'd never recognize this as Vampire Diaries, as I'm not a fan, but also I wonder if VD gets short shrift since it's that 'other teen vampire series'.

Stargate which was on a hell of a long time and starred McGuyver was different enough from both Star Trek and Star Wars and explained the premise right there in the title for anyone who might forget it. (As did the other two for that matter)
