Thanks! I do have my fixations; I'm terrible with recognizing other authors mostly but I'm always interested in how some people figure it out!
I think you've hit on one reason I react so strongly to Dean even though he's not entirely my usual type: like Lex Luthor, he's brutal about accepting the facts of his existence to the point of not understanding what could be changed (even though Dean also begins his arc confident of his ability to beat anything external to himself). He doesn't believe in fate, but he doesn't think he has alternatives.
