The failings of the Aaronovitch book are explicable if you know the UK background to it, which is that DA was a professedly leftist supporter of the Iraq war, was embarassed by its failure to turn the Middle East into hugs and puppies, and is now attempting to defend himself by claiming that the people who opposed the war from the left were irrational and motivated only by conspiracy theories based on hatred of the Jews and/or Americans.
