Technical incompetence rears its ugly head

So, the CMS on my site has just gotten substantially wonkier.  The html posting option disappeared and I can’t even use italics any more!  Is there anyone out there who knows how a CMS works who’d be willing to take a look?

Not sure, I looked at it - what are you using as a cms? Joomla? Just glancing at the CSS and the front page code I don't see anything odd.

I can't really see the cms externally of course, I'd have to log in.

Now I have to admit my total ignorance: I got someone else to set it up for me. It kind of looks like the Archive of Our Own interface when it's working right? There's a little html button I usually push which opens a popup window so I can insert the html?

:-/ Yeah, it'd be difficult to troubleshoot without knowing a bit more. I don't know if CMSes tend to update themselves or not...

However, for the problem you're having, I suspect it's a simple case of the CSS overriding any html tags, I would go into the CSS file and create a class that is italicized and use that for any text that needs italics. Of course, the CMS should probably be doing this for you, but I suspect it has become outdated causing it to interact badly with the browser or there is file corruption somewhere.

Any chance you'd be willing to actually do that? I'd write you a prompt of your choosing in thanks! But also feel totally free to say no, because I understand these things can get weird.
