First let me congratulate you for writing a wonderful coda to 4.22. You make the coming foursome very believable. Sam would be distrusting of any demon now, but his basic trust in Dean is at the core of his being.

Secondly, let TMI, IRL I don't believe in hell. I find it offensive that anyone suffer eternally for actions that at most could have been committed over a maximum of 115 years (the current age of the oldest person in the world). If a living parent locked their child in a cage and tortured them daily, Children's Services would swoop in and remove that child as soon as they were aware of the situation. Such a parent would be vilified by the press, and seen as monsters by the public at large. Yet God is defined as a loving compassionate father (at least in the New Testament), yet many church groups continue to say that God punishes many of his children in just this way.

The Supernatural world has made this a clear cut decision and I actually have come to sympathize with the demons. What Supernatural shown demons to be is (mostly) people who are tortured until they develop such a level of PTSD, that they go totally insane. The only thing that seem to relieve the torture is to give up their humanity, and become demons themselves. Even this does not totally relieve the pain, Hell is still a place of torment, the humans who have turned demon appear simply be released of the unending torment that is being inflicted upon them.

My wild, completely unlikely storyline, would mirror this story, that Lucifer does not want to rule this world, he just wants to save his "people", er demons, and to stop the torture of Hell for once and all.
