Yeah, I can see Dean both ways: it's plausible to me that he'd hand over his trust to Sam like he's handed over everything else; it's also plausible that he'd fear being left again and would find it hard to trust. I see this Dean as pretty confident in Sam's love, and not too concerned about whether Sam would hurt him, because most kinds of hurt don't count with him. Whereas Sam is scared of exactly the same thing.
