As I said elsewhere, I don't think Lex gets out of my stories with both hands, because it's such a useful thing to have happen to him.
And I don't think Clark would have let him use the Eradicator -- in that sense, he was right not to trust, except that we'll never know what the alternatives were, because Lex chose this plan above all others. And not for entirely good reasons.
