I think both "Lex woobie" and "Lex moron," because it would be less fun if it were just one. Those to whom evil is done do evil in return; and Lex can do many things, but breaking that cycle in his own life is not one of them. And I should say that I'm fairly sure that Clark would have said no to Lex's plan, mostly because of the risks and only secondarily because of the loss of his heritage. Whether Lex could have come up with some other solution -- well, maybe. We'll never know.
I'm glad you liked Kara; I did too! I'm not sure I was thinking "family" so much as "threesome," but it's all good.
