New year, new cats

We have two cats now.  My husband finally agreed, reluctantly, that the kids could take care of a cat.  So we went to a cat adoption event.  My daughter went over to a 9-year-old tabby and started making friends.  Meanwhile, my husband picked up a tabby kitten--

(lights dim, except for spotlight on kitten)

(Some Enchanted Evening begins playing in background)

So that's why we have two cats now.

PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

ALTERNATIVELY,

PICS OR I WILL COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND TAKE PICS MYSELF, WHILE YOU ARE IN YOUR UNDERWEAR.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that some of the people who protest most vociferously against kittens are the family members who are most vulnerable in some circumstances to a kitten's Puss-in-Boots from Shrek feline pathos face of doom.

Congrats on the new additions to the family.

Ahahahahahaha. EXCELLENT.

Have you read Paul Gallico's The Silent Miaow? Terribly dated in regard to most things gender-related, but the description of The Man Who Officially Does Not Care About Cats falling for a kitten is, it turns out, spot-on. (My dad was the EXACT same way.)

The premise of the book is that it is a photo-illustrated manual for kittens and stray cats about how to take over a household. It is delightful.
