I hope everyone else is ok! We've been bailing out our basement, but are otherwise intact.

Peter Watts v. Minister Faust debate whether sci-fi can be a happy place, via [community profile] dwdeadbro.

Apparently I’m unusual in having enjoyed SPN 8x04? I admit, I liked the pastiche of the handheld horror movie, liked that the misogynist stalker “friend” got what was coming to him, and really liked the parallel with Sam ‘n Dean. At long last, the two of them are on the same page with the monsters, at the same time! If you’re not killing anyone, you get one bite before they put you down … Okay, put that way, it’s a high risk strategy, but I do see why both Dean’s experiences and her human-innocence caused Dean to shift away from the position he took on Amy, who had been killing people. They both see the werewolf’s story as their own, and Dean no longer sees himself as necessarily corrupt (which was why the analogy just made him more committed to putting Amy down, I thought)—maybe Purgatory really did purge some of Hell.

I also enjoyed 8x04 more than most, apparently, and for similar reasons.

Glad you're alright! We are too, up in NYC, though I don't know how long I'll be off work what with the subway closures and all.

I enjoyed it quite a lot, actually, in large part because I've always enjoyed the "outsider" perspective on main characters. And I was very glad the girl lived, *and* they let her live.

I really liked it, too, and for much the same reasons. I appreciated that Sam was not suspicious of Dean's reasoning, as I had expected.

I'm glad you're okay, though damp. I actually liked the episode as well. I really like outsider POV. Also, I was happy to see the girl walking off into the sunset after having successfully defended herself, and it was interesting to see the boys following the story rather than creating it through their actions.

I think a hell of a lot of people got motion-sick. I think I lasted 20 minutes before I had to resort to just listening to the episode, because that much jitter-cam was making me so carsick that I couldn't have told you what was going on in the plot... and I like outsider.pov episodes!

Oh no. I hope the damage is minimal.
