A short political break

Hi, I’m a Democrat and a Jew, and I used to think of John McCain as a kind of cool guy who did well on The Daily Show and had repented of his entanglement with the Keating Five. Now he scares the shit out of me for what he’s been willing to do to smear Obama. Here’s [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong on the other things that the main source of the “Obama’s a secret Muslim/whatever” smear believes. Warning: it starts with the need to “exterminate Jew power.”

I will be fannish pretty soon; I try to keep this journal 90% fannish (counting book reviews, as I do). But I may well be more political in the next month. I also recommend [livejournal.com profile] giandujakiss for financial/political affairs interspersed with massive love for Sam & Dean. She's much better at multitasking than I am.

Your not alone. McCain and Palin are scareing the shit out of me too.

even when I was having doubts about Obama, Palin alone is enough to scare me into voting for him.

Have you seen this?

The Great Schlep (http://thegreatschlep.com/site/index.html) might amuse you. The NYT recently discussed it (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/07/arts/television/07sara.html).

I have seen it! Unfortunately I don't have any relatives down there to visit, or I totally would.

I admired McCain as a scrappy vet and a GOP Maverick - 25 yrs ago. His time has passed. I just read that Karl Rove is running the campaign - why is that so not surprising?

I've never donated $$ to a candidate b4 but I am doing so with Obama. When you do so online, you get all sorts of neet things opening up, such as spending two hours on a weekend calling other states to get the vote out and perhaps influence uncertain voters. :0)

I'm always impressed at people who can do that. I'm so shy of direct contact with strangers, but I want to do something like drive people around or something else logistical to help out.

wow, are the polls currently SO bad for Mccain and Palin, that they have to resort to that?!?!

In short: yes.

Which is almost even more sickening. It would be one thing if they had even put up a pretense of seriously believing in these smears that they're spreading. But they've actually fucking come right out and SAID "We're doing this in order to change the conversation away from the economy."

well, theoretically , it could backfire to them, and then maybe its the only positive outcome of this.
its always boggling my mind, that a group (like the jews) is being accused of holding too much or is in power, and thus needs to be -in any way-removed.
if they were, why are so many of them dead or were killed?
