Oh yeah, that.

I'm not sure I've read any other novels with a self-acknowledged sadist for a protagonist. I'm not sure that I want to. I like that Mathews tackles issues of complicity in a larger system head-on, and that there are no clearly right answers -- a lot like Butler, that way, in fact.
