IIRC (I read it when it first came out, umpty years ago) Covenant is so overwhelmed by the wonder of having feeling back that he rapes this nice girl without, like, completely realizing that he raped her. And she doesn't tell on him because she knows he's The Hero, but she does get all bitter & nasty.

And I made it to the end of the book, but I really don't know *why*.
