If you're reading military sf I think well of the Metzada stories by Joel Rosenberg. THE FOREVER WAR by Joe Haldeman, of course, but everyone's read that one by now. And Harry Turtledove has some interesting alternate universe/military sf novels, of which GUNS OF THE SOUTH is my favorite.
