Thank you! I was a Batfan before Smallville, but it's not a primary fandom for me. And most of the book really is his readings of various incarnations against the ur-Batman of his definition (the unattainable mission is justice, which means Batman is a figure of Sisyphean hope); it's just the things that made me say "argh!" that I focused on.
