rivkat: Rivka as Wonder Woman (Default)

I am a big believer in mass media texts generally being open to multiple readings, and that being a part of their success, but in this case I am really having trouble figuring out the thought process of anyone who thought that Xavier was the good guy in this movie, and to be fair I'm not sure I've even seen that reaction. If you're 10 and "tell don't show" works on you--which it really did on me when I was 10, I'm not critical!--then I can see it, because we all know Professor X ends up the hero and Magneto the maniac, but otherwise: yeah, privileged jerk who is wrong and then wronger. Maybe he figures out a better strategy than "if we are really helpful and hide our differences then they won't kill us!" later on, but this movie did not show it.
