This was an especially hard read, but you pretty much had me from your summary. It's ridiculously in character for the both of them - Sam so blinded by what he thinks is right and not considering the consequences and Dean so sure that he'll never be good enough - that it was like a continuous punch to the heart. I'm glad though that, while you left it open for hope, it's not actually resolved.
